Supporting Bekekayo Intermediate School, Bapsfontein
While driving through Bapsfontein, where he lives on a farm, the owner of TipTop Tree Services, Mr Marius Jansen, noticed a potentially dangerous situation. A large, overgrown tree stood close to one of the buildings at the Bekekayo Intermediate School. Heavy branches were hanging over the structure, and he could see the real risk it posed to the safety of the learners and teachers.
Although the school receives government support for basic items like stationery and food parcels, there is no funding for maintenance. The parents in this rural community are unable to contribute financially through school fees or fundraisers. The community simply does not have the resources to address issues that fall outside of basic necessities.
Understanding the need, Mr Jansen decided to step in and offer his help completely free of charge. He committed to making the playground safe without removing the much needed shade that the children rely on during their outdoor playtime.
Work Done
A Safer School Environment, With Shade Preserved
Rather than removing the entire tree, Mr Jansen carried out a careful reduction of the dangerous branches. His aim was to make the area safe while preserving as much shade as possible. The work was completed over three consecutive Saturdays to ensure the pupils were never at risk, as they do not attend school on weekends.
Principal Fana of Bekekayo Intermediate School expressed deep gratitude for the support. For this rural school, where resources are limited and the community faces financial hardship, the gesture meant far more than just tree maintenance. It was a gift of safety, care, and hope.
